Project Completed

A) Off-grid Solar PV System:

Before extensive expansion of the grid supply in remote villages, stand alone solar PV Systems played an important role to meet the demand of minimum need of electricity.

WBREDA provided about 2,50,000 Solar PV Home Lighting Systems and more than 11,000 Solar PV Street Lights across the state. In addition, WBREDA operated 16 stand alone type Solar PV Power plants of different capacity ranging from 25 kWp to 110 kWp at Sagar, Patharpratima and other remote locations in Sundarban areas.

WBREDA also provided off-grid solutions to a good number of institutions by installation of PV System of different capacity. The institutions include PHCs, Schools, Colleges, Government Offices, Guest Houses, Government Bungalows, Panchayat Offices, Block Offices, Forest Offices etc.

Besides, WBREDA installed off-grid solar power plants during 1995 – 96 at the then non-electrified areas in Sundarbans like at Sagar Island, Gosaba Island, Sandeshkhali Block etc. These power plants were supplying electricity during evening hours with the support of battery backup. After grid extension to those areas, these power plants were handed over to the local Panchayat Authorities.

In recent past, three rural libraries in Hooghly, eight health facilities in South 24 Parganas and two schools in South 24 Parganas have been provided with Standalone PV Systems.

B) Bio Energy Programme :

WBREDA implemented family type bio-gas programme in the name of National Biogas and Bio Manure Management Programme (NBMMP) during 2005 – 06 to 2009 – 10. During this period, WBREDA was also awarded from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India for such programme.

WBREDA has facilitated installation of biomass based Gasifier and Co-generation Plants at different rice mills and other processing industries, where the MNRE has provided capital subsidy. This programme is still continuing.

C) Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Systems in government / government aided Educational Institutions:

Installation of Roof top SPV system in 2089 schools and 81 colleges with total cumulative capacity 20.421 MWp. have already been completed (up to January 2023).

The school project includes installation of GRTSPV System at Government Aided / Sponsored Schools in the state with an objective of providing relief to the school authorities in electric bills. Such programme reduces electricity bill of that institution as well as creates awareness among the students, guardians, faculties, and other people. Besides, it also increases green energy mix in the atmosphere.

Aloshree Programme:

State Government launched an ambitious programme of rooftop solar systems in the name - “Aloshree’’. The objective of this programme is to install Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic (GRTSPV) System in all government buildings and buildings of local bodies which are technically feasible for such installations. Under this programme, indenting users may approach to WBREDA through their administrative Department or through the District Magistrate. for installation of PV Systems and WBREDA being State Nodal Agency implements the programme as deposit work.

Under this programme, Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic (GRTSPV) Systems have been installed at 89 Government Buildings with a cumulative capacity of 3.740 MW (up to January 2023).

D) Solar Tree:

Space is a major concern for deployment of solar PV system in highly populated area like Kolkata. The problem can be addressed with innovative ideas to integrate solar tree in the buildings and public areas. Such idea has been explored with Solar Tree (Artifacts).

Three solar trees each unit of having 3 kWp solar PV modules have been set up at the “Bidyut Unnayan Bhawan”, Saltlake, Kolkata and two similar solar trees have been installed at Raj Bhawan, Kolkata.

E) Solar Water Heating System for Government Hostels

Solar Water Heating Systems collect the thermal energy from the sun and use it to heat water which is used for day-to-day activities. Solar Water Heating Systems in turn save convention fuel or electricity. In recent past ETC based Solar Water Heating Systems of cumulative capacity 31500 LPD at 82 Hostels and Homes under Backward Classes Welfare Department have been installed by WBREDA.

F) 10 MW Solar Project at Bhajanghat

A Ground mounted Solar PV Power Plant of PV array capacity 10 MWp has been installed at Bhajanghat under Krishnaganj Block, Nadia. The power generated from the project is evacuated to the nearest 33/11 kV Substation at Krishnaganj through 33 kV line having route length of about 10.3 km. The project has been set up in the plots measuring about 52.54 acres of government land allotted in favour WBREDA.

The project has been completed on 30 September, 2021. Total 24.760 MU (Million Unit) of solar energy have been generated from this plant up to 31st December 2022.
