Wind Energy Programme

  • WBREDA has established Wind Power station in hybrid mode at Gangasagar in the year 1998, coupled with Biomass and Diesel. This was for providing grid quality electricity through local distribution network for local residents, Government offices, private lodges etc.
  • Through the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vaidutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), transmission and distribution network was extended to Gangasagar in 2012. Then, the local distribution network, coupled with the wind diesel hybrid project was handed over to the State Distribution Company (WBSEDCL).
  • In 2002, WBREDA has started Wind Farm project at Freserganj with 04 nos of Wind Electric Generator (WEG). Each of the generators was of 250 kW capacities. Later on this project was extended for another four nos of WEGs. Finally the project was completed with total 2 MW capacities.
  • This project has Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with WBSEDCL for supplying electricity to the WBSEDCL grid. In such a manner on an average 1.5 lakh units of wind electricity was supplied annually to WBSEDCL grid. In 2020, in cyclone Amphan the plant is damaged and is closed, since then.
